19th Century Victorian Portrait of Woman

Victorian portrait of a woman from the 18th century.
In addition to its undoubted beauty and excellent technique, the painting has its own story.

Relatives of  Mr. Gaston, who signed the painting, say he painted it in 1890, but the frame dates from the early 19th century.

I’ve seen frames like this before.
Supposedly, the painting depicts the mother of a certain French army officer who, on July 28, 1830, on the orders of King Charles X,

was to defend the Paris City Hall with his unit, but he joined the revolutionaries.

After painting, the painting was sent to be framed, but the carpenter damaged it slightly.

After returning to the correction, the painter decided to paint it again .

The original it remained in the painter’s studio and for over 200 years lay forgotten in the attic of a small castle in the south of Paris.
It is impossible to estimate the value of this painting. It’s not Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh or Pablo Picasso, but I think it may be worth a lot.
I found a similar one on Etsy, but without the signature, for €4,599. I think this one is many times more expensive.

Unfortunately, I have no intention of waiting for a rich collector who will pay 10,000 euros for this 18th-century canvas.

I wanted to hang it at home, but there is no space 🙂 I am putting it up for sale for EUR 2,200 and going back to searching for more rarities in France.

It’s an adventure that fascinates me.
We also sell old books.
Two years ago, our client bought several old books for 200 euros. It turned out that one of the books was worth 1,000 euros.

It was the first edition of a novel. The client came to tell me about it in person. This painting may be a more valuable investment.
